Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, was established on 1st December, 1985 with the objective to promote education, research and extension education in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines. Late Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister and the architect of Himachal Pradesh perceived the importance of Horticulture and Forestry to develop and improve the State economy which led to the establishment of this University. Its history lies in erstwhile Himachal Agricultural College, Solan, established in 1962 and affiliated to the Panjab University. It became one of the campuses of Agriculture Complex of Himachal Pradesh University on its formation in 1970. Consequent upon the establishment of Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya in 1978, this campus became its Horticulture Complex and finally in 1985, assumed the status of a State University, being the only University in the country engaged exclusively in teaching, research and extension in Horticulture and Forestry.
The University is located at Nauni in Solan District of Himachal Pradesh, 13 km from Solan on Solan-Rajgarh Road, at an elevation of 1300 metres above mean sea level. Solan town is situated on national highway (NH-22) and is well connected by train and bus services. From this year, a new “Institute of Biotechnology and Environmental Science” has been established at Neri in Hamirpur District located on Nadaun-Hamirpur State Highway, about 6 Km away from Hamirpur town and is well connected with bus service.
The University has two constituent Colleges located at the main campus, Nauni, one for Horticulture and the other for Forestry, having 8 and 7 departments respectively besides Seed Technology & Production Centre functioning under College of Horticulture. B Sc (Honours) Horticulture and B Sc (Honours) Biotechnology degree programme(s) shall commence from this Academic Year at the “Institute of Biotechnology and Environmental Science” at Neri in Hamirpur District. In addition, there are 5 Regional Research Stations and 12 Research Sub-Stations situated in different zones of the State and four Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) at Chamba, Rohroo, Sharbo and Kandaghat.

Now we explain about time table of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry odd Semester examination. Odd semester that means First, Third, Fifth, Seventh Semester for technical and Non technical Students. This examination was conducted for all departments students on month of November/ December. Even semester that means Second, Fourth, Sixth, Eighth Semester(II(2)nd, IV(4)th, VI(6)th, VIII(8)th Exam has conducted successfully for the year of 2016. Lot number of students benefited through this university for every year.
Date of Odd Semester examination 2016:Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry will preparing this exam time table and be released as soon for all departments of this university. Students are advised to preparing this examination as well. Time table will be released before month of November on official site or otherwise be shown in Notice Board of University.
Date of Even Semester Examination 2016:Even Semester examination Date sheet will release after Odd Semester exam finished. For every year Even Semester exam conducted on month of April/ May.Both semester result also available Separately on official site after done the examination. The university is located in the district of Solan in Himachal Pradesh, India. It university is the centre of excellence in imparting education, knowledge, research work and extensions in Forestry and Horticulture in Asia. It was established in 1985 and the name of the university was given after the name of the state’s first Chief Minister. The inauguration of the university was done by Late Rajiv Gandhi who was the then Prime Minister of India. The aim of the university is to spread knowledge and education and to promote research work in Horticulture, Forestry and other allied subjects and disciples. It also works to establish links with the government (state and central) and NGOs etc so that they can promote and protect the ecological balance of the nature.The campus of the university is 15 km away from the town of Solan. It is situated in Nauni and covers 5.5 km2. The university has 2 colleges: one of them being the college of Horticulture and the other is known as the college of Forestry. These colleges are further divided into 14 departments. Scientists and teachers are the faculties in the university looking after all the departments. The university has a school, called the Apple School, and it specializes in the study and research of apples. There is a department of management in the university which comes under the college of Horticulture and it provides degree in three fields, namely, marketing, human resources and finance with agricultural business in mind. The courses offered by the university includes under graduate courses, post graduate courses and doctor courses in the fields of  Forestry, Horticulture and allied subjects and sciences.
The admission of candidates to different programs offered by the university is made according to the Academic Regulations of the University. The provisions are regulated and amended regularly in order to take into considerations the guidelines and norms of the government and ICAR.
